Taylor T. is a Media Corps Girl Scout who got to attend the NASA: Sleepover at Space Center Houston overnight trip. Here is is her recap of her NASA adventure.
I attended the NASA: Sleepover at Space Center Houston on June 8 with 40 other Girl Scouts and 8 chaperones. We met at the Girl Scout Fort Worth Corporate office, traveled on a charter bus to Houston, explored the Space Center, slept overnight, and returned to the corporate office the next evening.
When I arrived at the corporate office, I did the check in process: checked in medicine, got my name badge and t-shirt, completed the health screening (temperature and lice check), and received my plastic bag to put my sleeping bag and belongings. We left corporate office a little later than our itinerary due to the charter bus being late. I was able to go to the store and shop and look around while we waited for the charter bus to arrive. Once the charter bus arrived, I gathered my things and said my goodbyes to my parents. I went to the back of the charter bus where the older scouts were sitting. Then I watched movies, read my books, stopped for lunch, and enjoyed the ride to Houston.
When we arrived at NASA, we put our sleeping bag and backpack in a small building until we got ready for bed. Next, we did lots of fun activities like programming a robot, building a rocket to see it go to “space”, and making a “spaceship” out of foil and cardboard. After our activities, we had dinner. We explored NASA’s gift shop. Then we went to bed staring into the “night sky”. The next morning, we got up, packed up our sleeping bag and got ready for the day. We ate breakfast, did the Tram Tour and explored more. Then we loaded back on the bus to head back to the corporate office. We had lunch and loaded into the bus. We settled on the bus with more watching movies, reading, and enjoy chatting with friends which I made.
The trip was so much fun. I loved going to see and learn about rockets. I even learned that WALL-E from the movie WALL-E was named after the robot Creativity that went to the moon. I also saw the most advanced spaceship at NASA, the Orion Spacecraft. I even got to meet some new Girl Scouts. I earned a GSTOP NASA Sleep Over 2024 patch.
I am so looking forward to my next adventure with Girl Scouts and l am looking forward to doing a longer trip.
