Jan Titsworth’s resume is extensive – entrepreneur, lecturer at Texas Christian University (TCU), community leader, Executive Director, Girl Scout Volunteer, and now, GSTOP Board Chair.
We caught up with Jan and asked her about her Girl Scout experience and her vision for the future.
From Gold Award Girl Scout to Architect
Jan joined Girl Scouts as a Brownie, and her mother was her troop leader. So, it’s no surprise that Jan would also serve as her daughter’s troop leader, from Daisy all the way to Girl Scout Ambassador.
The Girl Scouts Jan led are now in their mid-20s, and it’s easy to see how their Girl Scouts’ experience was formative in their careers. Jan’s daughter, Lauren, created an ADA accessible community garden for her Gold Award project. Lauren is now an architect.
Cookies and Entrepreneurship
Jan credits her own Girl scout experience, the Cookie Program in particular, with helping her to develop confidence as a business owner. In fact, she brings up the Cookie Program as an example of sales and entrepreneurship during her lectures at TCU.
Leadership Progression
Jan has served on the GSTOP board before, serving as a member-at-large. She understands the value of trusteeship in the community and felt that board membership was the next natural progression leadership journey as a way to connect your gifts and talents with the gifts and talents of others.
Her Hopes for Girl Scouts
She hopes that all Girl Scouts are “…confident to take on any challenge in the future. That they have the wisdom to make good choices… they are the ones creating their own future. They should be empowered to use their gifts and talents to make an impact.”
The Future
Jan is excited about the potential for our Girl Scouts as we move into the future. “It’s important that we look strategically at how the world is changing and how we engage with parents. Sometimes we get so set in ‘this is the way we’ve always done it’ and we need to explore new opportunities in a thoughtful and strategic way.”
“The future is full of possibilities. I’m excited about leading for the next few years and being a champion for all Girl Scouts.”
