Meet Girl Scout Volunteer, Bryce Backers!

June 27, 2023

With twins Elizabeth and Joseph, Bryce Backers stays on the move. Elizabeth, a middle schooler, is a Girl Scout, member of her school’s dance team and part of the gymnastics team. Her twin brother, Joseph, also stays busy with his activities. And dad, Bryce, is transportation and support.

Bryce serves as the Service Unit Cookie Chair for SU 204. This is his way of giving back to the organization that has provided so much for his daughter. He knows that Elizabeth needs to have fun when selling cookies, and he’s learned having Dad around adds to that fun.

“I always get comments when people see a dad with his daughter selling,” Bryce says.

As Service Unit Cookie Chair, he’s learned that photos are the best inventory method – it helps when your counting is off. His goal as the Service Unit Cookie Chair, and also his favorite part, is making the process as easy as possible for Troop leaders and watching troops find success.

We asked Bryce, why did you get involved in Girl Scouts? His response resonates with so many that join as adults. His wife and daughter were part of a troop. His entire family is involved in Scouting, as he himself grew up in Boy Scouts. Years ago, the service unit needed help with cookies, and Bryce offered to help. He saw a need, and he stepped up “not only for your kid, but all the kids.”

When thinking about reasons to become a volunteer with Girl Scouts, Bryce recalls finding his spot. When adults find a spot they can lean into at the troop or service unit level, they are supporting youth.

Bryce reminds us all that “Girl Scouts is full of really awesome volunteers.”
