Learn from professionals who work in a gourmet kitchen! Broadcasting all the way from Chicago into your home, get ready to whip up some Veggie Gumbo in this class with Kids Table!

In this second class in our five part series, we invite you to grab your biggest pot, a slew of spices and learn how to make a silky roux from scratch for this special Cajun cuisine - Vegetarian Gumbo! You won’t miss the seafood or sausage in this veggie version of the New Orleans classic (and if you do miss it, feel free to add it on in!). Gumbos rely on a roux to produce their thick silky texture. A roux is made by whisking equal parts fat and flour together to make a paste, which thickens whatever liquid you whisk in (here, veggie broth). For gumbo, you toast the flour first to deepen both the color and flavor of the base. Learn more as we cook together!

Whether you're new to the cooking scene or wanting to sharpen your skills, this program is for you!!! When you're in the kitchen cookin' up a storm, you are exploring math, chemical reactions, technology, seasonal produce, your own body and more! Cooking is an invaluable, fun life skill for all.

A week before your event, a grocery and supply list will be sent out to participating families to prepare for this cooking adventure! Please make sure you have all the items the day of your special cooking course. More information will be sent out via e-mail before the event.
