GIRL SCOUTS LOVE STATE PARKS
July 13-14, 2019
ABILENE STATE PARK

7/13 & 7/14: Fishing – ALL DAY
The park has some fishing equipment available to loan but please bring your own if you can.

7/13: 900-1000 Guided Hike
The park has a great trail system and are going to provide guided hikes throughout the weekend.

7/13: 1030-1130 Geocaching 101
A local club is going to provide some information, training, and demos - there are some caches already to be found out at the park!

7/13: Nature Scavenger Hunt
Come learn why stewardship of our natural resources is so important. Keep your eyes peeled as you stroll with our interpretive ranger around Buffalo Wallow and experience the diverse plant and animal life found in this part of the park. Feel free to ask questions and try and get some helpful hints about the life found in these areas of the park and where some of the answers might be found.

There will be scavenger hunt lists available at two difficulty levels, one for ages 4-9 and another for ages 10+, including adults!

Meet at the north trailhead of the Elm Creek Nature Trail (located behind the swimming pool).

This hike will be on mostly flat ground. Bring water, appropriate clothing and footwear for hiking, mosquito spray, and a keen eye!

7/13: 300-500 Girl Scout Camp Fire and S’mores

Come join your fellow sisters in scouting around a camp fire and make s’mores. We will have a demo of fire safety and how to properly build a fire. Then after the fire is going we will make and enjoy s’mores, camp stories and songs!

7/14: 930-1100 Field Journaling
Field journaling has been important to scientists and explorers for as long as there’s been frontier. But, it’s also a way to record your adventures, notice the details in the beauty surrounding you, and admire the creativity of nature in a deeper way.

Whether you’re 5, 25, or 55 ― join us and start your first field journal at Abilene SP!

Together with our Park Interpreter, start the first few entries of a journal that will put you on your way to learning and growing as a citizen scientist, artist, writer, or adventurer!

Meet at the CCC building.
