Project Troop to Troop

For U.S. Troops stationed across the nation and around the world, nothing says home like a box of Girl Scout Cookies. Project Troop to Troop encourages customers to buy additional packages of Girl Scout Cookies to donate to members of the U.S. Armed Forces. Via several nonprofit agencies, Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains will send these donated cookies around the globe, bringing a taste of home to those who protect our home.

During the 2008 Cookie Sale Program, customers "sponsored" over 36,000 packages of cookies for Project Troop to Troop.

What’s really in a box of Girl Scout Cookies?

First, the box contains an outstanding program for girls. From learning to count money to setting goals for college and their lives; from learning to meet the public to developing self confidence in themselves and their value to society; from learning to work with others to becoming leaders who will grow up to make the world a better place – the Girl Scout Cookie Sale is first and foremost an opportunity for girls to learn through experience.

Second, the box contains funding that helps Girl Scouting make a lot of good things happen for girls. Research shows that the number one reason people buy Girl Scout Cookies is to support Girl Scouting.

Third, the box contains Girl Scouting. For many people, the cookies sale is the only time during the year when they interact with a Girl Scout. She becomes their personal symbol of how Girl Scouting is helping girls grow strong today so that they become the competent, caring and confident adult customdians fo tomorrow’s world.

Fourth, the box contains some of the most popular cookies in America – cookies that are only available for a short time each year. Girl Scout Cookies are a "Great American Tradition."

When all of the cookies have been consumed, the box is still not empty. Hold it to your ear and, if you listen with your heart, you will hear the echoing of thousands of happy memories and incredible achievements that the cookie sale has made possible.

Picture of CookiesFirst and foremost, the Cookie Sale is a program activity for girls!

It is the premier entrepreneurial program for girls in the US. What do we mean by entrepreneurial? The definition of an entrepreneur is someone who promotes a business or manages a business. This is what the Cookie Sale program offers girls. They have the opportunity to manage their own Cookie Sales – deciding how many cookies they want to sell and managing their resources (time, parent support, etc.) to make that happen. The girls have the opportunity to set not only sales goals but learning goals – so this is an effective learning program.

Magic Quarters

You may be thinking that two quarters are not worth very much.  After all, what can you buy with two quarters these days?  Two quarters can buy a soft drink from a vending machine, or if you’re lucky a game at the local video arcade. The truth is that these days two quarters really won't buy very much…unless they’re magic quarters.

With two magic quarters, Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains, Inc. will be able to fund more troop activities and extend Girl Scouting to every girl who wants to join.  They will change the lives of girls - and, through those girls, these magic quarters are going to help build a better future for our community and our world.

Just two quarters will help more girls build character and skills for success in the real world.  These two magic quarters are represented by the increase in the consumer price of cookies from $3 to $3.50.  Where else will two quarters buy so much, do so much?

I ask that you share these magic quarters, or rather the story of why they are magic, with someone else in our Council.  Then ask that someone to pass the quarters on to another - so by cookie sale time, everyone will know the story and the power of the magic quarters.
