Tent Camping

In this course you will learn how to put up, storm lash, take down, and choose tents.  You will also learn sites to camp at, both Council facilities and others.  You will have the opportunity to experiment with various types of tents.  Participants will need to bring their Outdoor Education in Girl Scouting book.

Requisite: Must have completed Cabin Camping.

Cabin Camping is offered in conjunction with this course, please register separately.

Cabin Camping

After this overnight class you will feel comfortable taking your troop on an overnight camping experience!  You will learn fire building safety, menu & activity planning, proper care of equipment, knots and the basic concept of Leave No Trace.  

                          Participants will need to bring:

                          Outdoor Education in Girl Scouting book and other resources they received at Outdoor 101

                          Overnight Supplies including bedding, a flashlight and camping clothing.

Outdoor 101

Prerequisite for all outdoor classes. This class provides participants with the basic knowledge required to take girls camping at both council and non-council facilities. Participants will learn the 8 Basic Outdoor Skills, progression in the out of doors, Safety Procedures, Council policies, proper dress, and camp rules.

Leadership Essentials/Journey

Volunteers will walk away with a clear picture of how to lead a troop!  They will learn the meaning of the three keys of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) and how to utilize resources to support the GSLE, including the journeys with accompanying adult guides. Participants will explore the Girl Scout processes which are girl-led, learning by doing and cooperative learning and how to incorporate those into Girl Scout activities. Every class is preceded by New Member Orientation, please register separately for each class. And feel free to bring your dinner! 

New Member Orientation

This course provides new volunteers with the basic information regarding the mission, purpose, and history of Girl Scouts, as well as information on the organizational structure, forms and policies of the organization. Each new leader and assistant leader are required to complete New Member Orientation provided by GS-TOP. Cost is free, bring your dinner! Every class is followed by Leadership Essentials/Journey, please register for each class separately.
