Fall is hectic enough! Get a jump on paperwork by registering your returning girls and adults this spring. Early Bird patch bracelets will be offered to all Girl Scout Troops that re-register before June 15th!
Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains is seeking hard working, passionate, accountable and positive individuals who would like to be a part of our summer staff team at one of our three resident camp programs. Here’s your chance to give young girls a fantastic summer experience while they grow in courage, confidence and character! Several staff positions are available for individuals that are 16 or 17 years old; most staff positions begin hiring at 18 years old. Girl Scout experience is not required. This is a wonderful opportunity for graduating High School seniors and college students – build your resume while you make a real difference in the life of a girl!
Program Aides are Girl Scouts Cadettes (6th -8th grade) who want to share their skills with others, and help promote the Girl Scout program. Program Aides are trained Girl Scouts who are at least two years older than the group they are serving. Once Program Aides are trained, they will be able to work with other troops by sharing their special talents and help with any service unit event or council program.
Throughout June and July, Girl Scout volunteers host a variety of day or twilight camps with unique themes and activities. Girls may learn about sustaining the environment, campfire cooking skills, learning new games or sports, outdoor survival skills, tie-dye art or earning some of the newest badges. Day/Twilight camps for 2012 have a focus on the 100 years of Girl Scouting where great fun is waiting for them as they explore the past and future of Girl Scouts.
Throughout the summer, GS-TOP partners with many businesses and organizations in the greater Fort Worth area to offer program opportunities for individual girls. Summer Extreme is designed to provide continuous Girl Scout program for girls whose troops take a break during the summer or girls who want a beyond-the-troop experience. Summer Extreme provides a variety of activities in each grade level. Prices are determined by the businesses and organizations who provide the expertise, the staff and many times the location.

On Saturday, May 5th Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma plains will be hosting the very first council wide Gold Award Gala. Please join us in celebrating the accomplishments of our 2012 Gold Award recipients from each region in our council. The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award in Girl Scouting. It symbolizes outstanding achievements in the areas of leadership, community service, career planning and personal development.
On Saturday, June 16th, Girl Scout Councils across Texas will recognize the dedication of the young women who do something every day to improve the lives of those around them. Join us for the Statewide Gold Award Celebration at the State Capital, House of Representatives Chamber in Austin, Texas.
GS-TOP Announces Girl Scout Scholarship Recipients
Girl Scouts in the Texas Oklahoma Plains regions are contributing to their communities in outstanding ways as they work to make the world a better place. GS-TOP recently awarded Girl Scout Scholarships to 17 graduating Ambassador Girl Scouts, awarding a total of $13,000. Congratulations to each of our recipients!

The Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn. To Earn the Girl Scout Silver Award gives you the chance to show that you are a leader who is organized, determined, and dedicated to improving your community.

The Girl Scout Bronze Award, a leadership adventure for you and more than half a million other Girl Scout Juniors, across the country and around the world. The Girl Scout Bronze Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can achieve. As you and your troop or team plans and completes the project, you’ll develop more confidence, meet new people, and have fun when you work with other Girl Scouts to make a difference in your community.

Through Girl Scouting, girls can earn many different awards in a variety of topics. In addition to the Journey Awards contained within each Journey Series (It’s Your World – Change It!; It’s Your Planet – Love it!; and It’s Your Story – Tell It!), there are awards for each grade level. Each copy of The Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting includes a fold-out page listing all of the awards available for each grade level. Each grade level has awards in Financial Literacy and Cookie Business, as well as the My Promise, My Faith award. Daisies earn Petals and Leaves. All other grade levels earn Badges. There are seven categories of Legacy Badges for each grade level as well as Skill-Building badges for each Journey series. There are so many to choose from that girls will always have enough to keep them interested and engaged in learning.
S.T.E.A.M. stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.
What is a S.T.E.A.M. event? The S.T.E.A.M. event is a workshop where a girl will learn about one or more: science, technology, engineering, arts or math.
2012 Is the Year of The Girl and the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouting! Did you know that there are over 1 million women living within our council area that were once a Girl Scout? This year's Cookie Sale is a perfect opportunity to connect with these Alumnae! During your cookie sale, ask your customers, "Were you ever a Girl Scout?" Even if they say they "were just a Brownie", tell them - Once a Girl Scout, Always a Girl Scout!
A new game to play! "Did you ever?"... "Tell me about your life," is usually a little too broad to evoke memories. It is important to focus on a specific topic. Use the " Did you ever?"... Intergenerational game to help stimulate the girls and the residents to remember and share memories.
