In Keller, TX more than 190 Girl Scouts attended Flying to New Horizons on Nov. 16 at the Keller Lions Club facility. The event, sponsored by Troop 3302 and Lockheed Martin, encouraged girls of all ages to embrace and further pursue the love of science and engineering. For their building creativity, Legos donated thousands of Legos for the event. The girls also rotated between six tables of hands-on science experiments and got to experience two Viper flight simulators and two engineering games. Christina Baker, a troop leader, said the event really encouraged the girls to nurture their love of science. "Events like this empower them to take a lead in their community," Baker said. "Overall, we wanted the girls to walk away knowing science isn't something to be afraid of." (The Keller Citizen Star-Telegram/Susan McFarland)
Girls from Troop #6073 prepare to work on their Artist Badge by attending a Latino Folk Tales: Cuentos Populares and Artist by Latino Artists event at the Texas Tech Museum. Girls listened to an old folk tale "A Perfect Season for Dreaming" by Benjamin Saenz, decorated a pinata and enjoyed an art exhibit of several Latino Artists. This hands on experience and discussion will help them meet some of the requirements in their Legacy Art Badge.
