Can you “Dutch it”? Love to cook in a Dutch oven? Have recipes to share? Want to learn great Dutch oven practical practices?

A day-long event where troops compete with other troops to show their skills with a Dutch oven. We will share everyone’s recipes and compare notes on Dutch oven cooking and cleaning along with best practice uses of a Dutch oven, different types of fires and uses, fire safety, and leaving no trace.

Troops that are troop camping that weekend will be required to participate in the “Dutch it,” and there is no additional fee required.

All entries must do three Dutch ovens of your entry recipe. All troop members must be current Girl Scouts.

Desserts will be provided and, of course, cooked in a Dutch oven!

Troops that want to join the fun for the day (that are not troop camping) can pay a $10 fee per troop and will be assigned a fire circle. You must bring your own fire and cooking supplies. Check-in time for entry dish is 5 p.m., samples for all at 5:30 p.m., awards and sharing time at 6 p.m. Three guest judges will be on hand, plus we will all share our best Dutch oven practices. But wait, there is more — try your luck at “camp fire” trivia!

Troops camping and troops registered for the “Dutch it” event are also invited to attend a round robin of fun “fire” activities at no additional fee from 9 a.m. to 12:55 p.m. Your troop picks what you want to do. Choice include: 1) Alternative fires and string test fire challenge, 2) fire starters and fire S.W.A.P. 3) Greenbriar trail hike -fire safety, history, and a great hike with activities, 4) Survivor – a challenge to outwit other fire teams. These activities are available while spots last.

At the end of the day, all troops camping, all troops registered for “Dutch it” are also invited to a flag retirement at the big fire circle at 8:30 p.m, come and go, but we will share information on how to properly retire a flag, with the right kind of fire.

Complete rules and event schedule will be provided after your registration is complete. There will also be a prize for best presentation and team name. So be “fired up,” cook with us, and have some camp fun!
