Destinations Travel Pathway

The Girl Scouts travel site www.girlscouts.org/travel is your one stop resource for girl travel:

On the home page you will find links for destinations, travel slideshows, girl stories and Global Travel Toolkit, Girl Scout Travel Videos, Why Girls Love Traveling with Girl Scouts and the 2013 destinations listings.

The destinations page features pictures of girls traveling on previous destinations, destinations timeline, destinations brochure, Explore It! Your Guide to GS destinations and the destinations application. Along with links for money-earning activities for travel and financial aid forms for destinations partners and a new jamborees listing.

Watch this great testimonial video from Courtney, her parents and leader. This is a great way to promote destinations and travel opportunities to girls, parents, volunteers and leaders.

Destinations listing are available from the Travel home page on the bottom right hand side or on the destinations home page under 2013 destinations listing, where do you want to go, learn more link.

 

2013 destinations timeline:

  • Thanksgiving: All applications are in route to event sponsors from the applicants' home councils
  • Dec. 3: All "early" applications received by event sponsors
  • Jan. 16: All applicants notified of their status for "early" applications
  • Feb. 1: All deposits holding a participants' spot are due to event sponsors for "early" applications
  • Feb. 18: "Late" applications received by event sponsors
  • Mar. 4: All additional applicants notified of their status. Participant status report to GSUSA by event sponsors
  • March 18: All "late" applicants' deposit due to event sponsors

 

Girls can apply up to 4 destinations. Application process - fill out a Girl Scout destinations application with 2 letters of recommendations. You can use the same letters of recommendation for additional destinations that you apply for.

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL JUST FOR GIRL SCOUTS

Did you know that EF stands for Education First? Education doesn’t only happen in classrooms.  This company is endorsed by GSUSA and works closely with Girl Scout Leaders to provide girls with an affordable and easy way to say hello to the world. Great News!  Global Explorers will now be offering a number of scholarships for students to travel on our Leaders for Change Program.  The program will be taking students to the Peruvian Highlands this Summer 2013.  The scholarships will range from $500 - $1000 and will be based on both financial need and merit.  Scholarship applications are due February 15, 2013. The Leaders for Change program will be facilitated as part of a collaborative effort with the Center for Creative Leadership in their efforts to work with non-profit organizations on initiatives related to globally responsible leadership, change leadership and developing future leaders worldwide. This is an incredible opportunity for students to travel to the Andes and Machu Picchu while gaining real-world leadership skills to carry with them into the future.  Students will returned poised with a new found knowledge of what being an effective leader really means!

Eligible Participants: Students ages 15-21 at the time of travel

Dates: July 25 - August 4, 2013

Cost: $3,250 + airfare
